Help Pass Important Consumer Safety Act
Please send the following letter in support of the proposed Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, to Canadian Senators.
This proposed law finally gives the federal government the ability to make mandatory recalls and stop manufacturing if needed, and the Health Minister the ability to order product safety tests and disclose confidential business information if there may be serious danger to human health. Industry and those associated with natural health products have been raising quite the stink, even though the United States already has a stronger law and the law will not apply to natural health products.
Send the letter to Senators right now and help set the record straight.

Dear Senator,
As a Canadian consumer, I am in support of Bill C-6, the proposed Canada Consumer Product Safety Act. This Bill, which finally gives Health Canada the necessary means to ensure product safety in Canada, is long overdue. Currently, a variety of consumer products are not regulated and Health Canada can only address concerns on a retroactive case-by-case basis.
Bill C-6 finally means that Health Canada can take the steps necessary to ensure that we are not using unsafe products in our homes. Tools such as the ability to make mandatory recalls and stop manufacturing if needed, and allowing the Health Minister to order product safety tests and disclose confidential business information if there may be serious danger to human health are fundamental to ensuring that our health is adequately protected.
This law would bring Canada in line with the European Union and the United States, where a law similar to Bill C-6 was passed by George W. Bush.
This Bill is a positive step for Canada as it recognizes the growing number of consumer products across borders. Please do your part to ensure that Canada is not a dumping ground or safe haven for products unacceptable elsewhere.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
|
